You’re In The Great Holiday Season Now

Listen, the hardcore phase of the holiday season is here. To clarify, Thanksgiving is a wrap! Obviously, if you celebrated, you just participated in the last Thanksgiving of this decade. You made it through! Be grateful. It’s another Black Friday. Love it or hate it, if you managed your money right throughout the year, today can be rewarding. It must be said, there is so much more goods and services on sale than televisions.

Real quick, the holidays are sentimental, exciting, joyous, or depressing depending on the person or family member. There are events that only occur this time of the year that you can’t get any other time. The arts never disappoint and will regale you with plays that are only available, you guess it, now! You should appreciate a community theater or ballet that works diligently to pull off the Nutcracker, Grinch, or A Christmas Carol. These are the classics and they are in season.

Demystifying The Holiday Season

Truth be told, the title of this section is pushing sarcasm. Unquestionably, a lot folk use this time of the year to relax. Indeed, if you are one of those people, then enjoy the fireside, quiet, and your favorite beverage. Clearly, it’s been a long year. Additionally, the new year is on the way. Don’t let the morose mood sneak up on you and swallow you whole, especially if you spend this time of year alone.

You have to do things on purpose this time of year to repel the sullen and gloomy disposition. Food pantries and kitchen welcome volunteer services. Buy toys and give them out at a children’s hospital in your area. Do your research. No excuses. You, a good friend or family member are responsible to pull yourself out of your funky disposition.

It should be noted, this is a visual, audible, and olfactory time of the year. What this means is Christmas time is in your face and ears. You can smell Christmas in the air and taste it in your mouth on your tongue. Attitude is everything and it can drive you where you want to go and don’t. Moreover, you want to stay clear of being deemed the proverbial Grinch.

In short, you have to find balance during this season. Don’t let it consume you and deplete any of your joy.

Happy Holidays Or Merry Christmas

The Work Nipsey Hussle Was Doing In His Community, Is The Key To Neighborhood Transformation

Sunday, March 31, 2019, the community of Crenshaw and the African American Culture took an important loss. We need people like Nipsey in the community. We don’t get them that often, so how could he we lose him at such a crucial time? Who was so out of touch and disjointed to the community’s need to think their issue trumped Nipsey’s community progress. The inspiration that he was spreading and the knowledge he was sharing, who was selfless and profound. Self-made!

Neighborhood Transformation Was Something Nipsey Was In The Process Of Mastering

Urban transformation by one of our own, is always more important than the gentrification by outside real estate businesses. While the Department of City Planning is largely responsible for “gentrification”, passed off was “Urban Transformation”, when those who grow up in their community engage in community transformation, it is better received. The reason being is because the purpose is not push anyone out, but to invoke and inspire a mindset that says, take care of where you live. Grow and progress your block. Beautify and make safe your block. Invest in where you came from, because nobody understands it better than you!

What Can We Learn From Nipsey Hussle’s Strategic Means And Ways? And, How Do We Continue To Apply His Legacy?

We can learn to search for opportunities to give back in the community. So many times we move far from where we grew up and that is fine. There is still opportunity to invest those areas. Buy your community and improve it for the generations to come. Buy it a little corner at a time. Reinvest in programs. Meet with community leaders and council. Come with a credible plan and ask, how can I help?

The “give back” term used for community involvement, is often a loaded or broad phrase. Don’t misunderstand, there is nothing wrong with turkey and ham giveaways at Thanksgiving in the community. It’s always the normal go to activity by those who have “made it”. We have to take a moment and think about long-term impacts that will insert a community shift to a prosperous, safe, and secure function. It can be done, it must be done. Locals should always be provided with the opportunity to buyback the community. Even if you have to mix it up with other outside financing. They should always be afford with the chance to get a piece of the block.

Social Media Is Winning! Are You?

Social media is constantly evolving with the creation of new apps. Look at your App Store and see the number of Social Networking Apps available for participation or engagement. There are apps that allow you to pin, snap, insta, face, tweet, tumble and many other buzz words, which boost your networking ability. In my experience, you get more or additional connection with the same people you’ve previously connected with on other networks. So how do you authentically connect with a network of people whom you don’t know? How do you link to people that are not in your past or present social repertoire? There are ways and means, some you may pay for and others gravitate toward you depending on interest and celebrity status. Shame, because someone could be a diamond in the rough. Here is what you probably already know.

People are protective and selective when it comes to connecting with unfamiliar people on social media. You can’t blame either woman or man for being skeptical of the creepy crawly on two legs in a dress or pants. It’s a good thing block and delete selections exist when the weird, troll or stalker steps into character. But still, virtually connecting to new people is something that can be hard.

If you finally get them to accept your request then getting them to stay, well that’s another task. Social media should not be a job. It should be informative and interesting if you connect with people unlike yourself, from different surroundings to expand your culture and knowledge base from a virtual perspective.

How do you succeed with an organic network? It takes work and consistently connecting without being seemly annoying. But, that’s one possible solution. You have to find what works for your social media behavior based on what you want to gain. What’s your purpose for actively taking part in networking? And, are you active? How do you fit it into your life without it overtaking what’s priority? These are a few questions, you may want to ensure you can answer. When you find the answer, every so often you should reevaluate why are you engaging and ensure your network grows with you.

I’m Walking On Sunshine And Gliding On Air To Make It Through

I have to confess, the first seven months of every year is my most busiest. Do I plan it like that? One might say, yes I do. The reason is, I enjoy having the last two months of each year free to celebrate my yearly accomplishments and the holidays, but that comes with a price. The price is having a fully unavailable January – September. I suspect we all plan our lives or family lives around the events, that happen from month to month. Even after planning and organizing the days of my life in a year, my to-do list can still feel like it’s too much. And time, well time is not on my side most of the time. Trying to find the win or break even point, is challenging.

Making It Through A Day

A normal for me starts at 5:30am. Luckily, I don’t have any children, which means my morning belongs to me. Well, that’s also indicative of none of my immediate siblings, who share same city as I do, doesn’t require any help or favors. I keep activities in my life to ensure that I don’t end up with a lot of free time on my hand. Don’t think I’m a snob and I believe I have to be inundated with task, miscellaneous time is great, to ensure that I properly unwind and practice self-care.

It does seems as if with many of days, I’m running out of time. Not that 24 hours isn’t enough, but working for the man, personal time for me, and enough time to sleep…I’m short in 1 of the 3 areas. Most of the time it is personal time, I’m not allocating enough time to me…my personal time.

How Do I Account For Me On A Daily Basis

The real question becomes, how do I account for me? I make choices that will benefit me and the people around me. If I had to look over the course of my life, just maybe I have accounted for others more than me. My siblings might say it’s all about me. My colleagues would say, “you have to take care of you’. See, the dilemma is I appear one way to the people I love, and another way to the people I love being around. It’s possible both sets of groups are correct. I behave according to the situation and environment. Yet, am I still serving me best interest, in both environments? Am I not taking enough advantage of self-care? Let me shake off the voices in my head and say, it’s time for a notable change…well, a more conscious evaluation of myself. I believe this will catapult or punt me into the next phase of my growth and decision making. I’m more than ready to properly account for me!

There Is A Method To My Madness and Not Always A Madness To My Method

Sometimes, I find that being normal doesn’t quite get me through the day. I have to embrace my Ravenclaw House qualities in order to deal with events and people in my day. Yes people, I categorize people into houses, so that I know how to properly deal with them. I’m weird like that. It makes them bearable. If you are not familiar with the elements or qualities of each house in Harry Potter, then I will oblige and do a quick recap.

  • Hufflepuff: The house values dedication, hard-work, fair play, patience, and loyalty.
  • Gryffindor: The house of the chivalrous, loyal, courageous, adventurous, bravery and chivalrous.
  • Ravenclaw: The house is known for their intelligence, creativity, cleverness, wisdom and knowledge.
  • Slytherin: The is the house of the prideful, resourcefulness, ambitious, intelligent, cunning, and determined.

If you look at this, you can probably understand why I place people in the respective houses. Some will be easier to deal with than others. I don’t have time to waste, where I cannot make progress with people. I’m weird, but there is a method to madness and this may look like a madness to my method.

I do what’s needed in order to accomplish what I must to make it through my days, here on earth. Sometimes, it feels as if I running out of time or time is running me. No matter what, I have to adjust and emerge successful and walk a sane line, sometimes dipping my toe into a little insanity. The approach works and that’s what matters.
